Q.) So how do the classes work? What is CrossFit?
A.) At every class there will be a workout posted on the board and the website known as the “workout of the day” or we call it WOD. Each day it changes so that you never get bored or hit plateaus in your training program. The trainer will start the class, get everyone warmed up and go through what the exercises are for that day. Since the program is universally scalable, the trainers can work within your current fitness levels. We then say 3-2-1 go… and you go through the workout as fast as you can essentially like a race. This makes the workouts short, intense, but also highly effective in toning, strengthening, losing weight, and just being fit.
Q.) Do I need to be at a certain fitness level before I join CrossFit?
A.) Absolutely not. While fitness levels may differ, everyone’s basic workout goals are the same. To Get Fit. We will work to increase power, strength, endurance, flexibility, stamina, coordination, agility and balance. Everyone in a class will perform the same movements, but the workouts can be scaled up or down based on your experience and fitness level. If you are new to CrossFit you may not lift as much or go as fast as an experienced CrossFitter, but the same basic movements and exercises are the same.
Q.) So how do I get started?
A.)You can call 925-743-0222 or send an e-mail to info@crossfit-drive.com or directly to travis@crossfit-drive.com to let us know that you would like to get started.
Q.) Some of the movements look difficult or scary! Will I be lost?
A.) Our on-ramp classes focus on teaching form and technique. You may be comfortable with some movements and challenged by others. That’s OK. Like anything new, some techniques will take time to master. The key is to start slow and gradually ramp up in weight and speed as your body becomes comfortable with new movements. We’ll never push you beyond your comfort level, and you’ll soon discover how satisfying it is to master a difficult technique! We have a method to the madness, there are a total of 6 sessions that are required before feeding into the regular class schedule. In these sessions you will do CrossFit workouts, just that the first half hour of each class we will teach and practice the movements and the second half is the meat and potatoes. These sessions also allow us to assess your fitness levels and help you with nutrition and flexibility issues. Remember, we can start with a more scaled back workout if needed.
Q.) What times are the onramp classes being run?
A.) The on-ramp foundations training starts the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month. New CrossFitters need to complete the foundations training. See our Schedule of Classes for on -ramp class times.
Q.) What if I have already been doing CrossFit or don’t want to go through the on-ramp classes?
A.) In our on-ramp classes we cover squats, presses, kettle bell swings, Olympic lifts (snatch and clean), etc. If you can show proficiency in technique, we will clear you for the regular classes. Once one of the trainers either Travis or Chad clears you for the regular classes, you will be ready to rock!
Q: What if I want to work with a trainer one on one?
A.) We have personal training available. Just check with one of the trainers to set something up.
Q.) Do you allow kids?
A.) Yes, we even have a program just for kids and teens! CrossFit Kids/Teens is not simply a scaled down version of CrossFit, it is entirely absolutely CrossFit geared and designed for a special population and the specific developmental needs of that population. CrossFit Kids/Teens focuses on a positive attitude, team work and teaching the 10 basic fitness skills that will carryover to their sports or just to live a more healthier and fit life. Basically starting them on a journey to total health and fitness. See class times on our schedule of classes.
Q.) Do you have baby sitting?
A.) Sorry not now, but we are in the process of setting up a dedicated area for kids to hang out while their parents WORK OUT.
Q.) OK, I want to get started, what about the first day?
A.) Your first day is the start of a great adventure. Wear some workout clothes, and bring a positive attitude cause we’re going to have some fun! The trainer will ask you some questions as to what you hope to achieve from your experience and then we will have you warm up, teach you some basics and give you a workout. Hooya!.
